On the other hand, as previously communicated, recent rises in energy costs brought about the need for Sealand-Maersk to introduce an Emergency Inland Energy Surcharge for all inland transportation to minimize disruption to your supply chain. We are evaluating the market continuously and depending on circumstances, we will adapt the surcharge as the situation evolves.

The current circumstances now require the implementation of an increased surcharge to accommodate additional costs presented by our vendors, secure the capacity in the market and ultimately ensure a continued and sustainable inland transportation service to our customers
To mitigate further disruption to your supply chain, the new surcharge won't be effective immediately but as of 06 April 2022.

It will be applied as follows*:

  • Direct truck transports: 14% over inland standard tariff
  • Rail combined intermodal transports: 9 % over inland standard tariff

*Price calculation refers to Vessel Departure date at cargo origin port. If you have a contracted rate, please note that you can find the standard tariff for specific corridors via our inland rate look-up tool.

The surcharge will be in place for as long as it will be necessary to cover the increased costs that we are incurring. This means that we will withdraw the surcharge as soon as the energy prices return to previous levels. Surcharge codes will be presented on invoices as “EEE” (Emergency Inland Energy Surcharge Export) and “EEI” (Emergency Inland Energy Surcharge Import).
We will continue to review the situation on a country-by-country basis, making necessary changes to the surcharge as circumstances dictate. As a result, further increases may also be experienced but we will keep you informed of any changes as soon as possible.
